SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The University of Illinois Springfield Department of Athletics is teaming up with the Ball Chatham School District to Reach for the Stars during Red Ribbon Week October 27-30.
The goal of Red Ribbon week it to engage in activities that promote a drug-free and healthy lifestyle.
On Monday, UIS student-athletes will visit the three elementary schools for assemblies on what it means to have academic and personal goals. Then on Wednesday, UIS has invited the schools to "Team Up Against Drugs" and attend the UIS vs McKendree soccer games on Wednesday, Oct. 29. Students and families are invited to the 5 p.m. men's game and/or the 7:30 p.m. women's soccer game at Kiwanis Stadium. Students can attend free of charge with Titan wear, Red Ribbon bracelets or by wearing red. All parents are $3.
UIS is hosting a costume contest at half time of the men's game for K-1, 2-3 and 4-5. The winner for each group will be decided by loudest applause from the crowd. Anyone wishing to compete must check in by 5:30 p.m. The top three winners from each group will receive a prize.
In addition, the Glenwood High School girls soccer team will be recognized at halftime during the women's game.
