Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Herber Leads UIS To 1-0 Win Over Indianapolis

The UIS women's soccer team (4-8-3, 3-7-2) closed out its home schedule on a high note Sunday afternoon, defeating UIndy (1-10-3, 1-9-3) 1-0 behind a first-half goal from Mallory Herber.

Herber put the Prairie Stars on top in the 27th minute, finishing a setup from Addison Wittenberg to give UIS its lead. The goal came after several dangerous chances, including a close-range attempt from Ellie Mejia that forced a save from UIndy goalkeeper Maria White.

UIS kept up the pressure the rest of the half while holding firm defensively to take the 1-0 advantage into the break.

The Stars continued to dictate play in the second half, generating a steady flow of shots but unable to add to the lead. Herber and Riley Lloyd both forced White into key saves, while Taytum Scarborough's late attempt just missed wide.

Goalkeeper Gigi Yurevich anchored the defense with one save to record the shutout — her third of the season. Herber led the attack with five shots, including three on goal, while Lloyd added four shots and two on frame.

Sunday's match also marked the final home appearance for the UIS senior class. UIS recognized Alexa Blake, Katelynn Ward, Gigi Yurevich, Anna Schurz, Greta Kohnz, Claire Ruter, McKenna Gahagan, Dani Auble, and Taytum Scarborough for their contributions to the program.

"Huge shoutout to our seniors — we got one more win on their home field, and they all had an opportunity to contribute. That's the most important thing for us," said head coach Scott Myers. "I'm grateful for the shutout from our back line and goalkeeper. Over the last two games, we've created more moments of possession and are finishing the season on a positive note for our seniors."
