University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) track and field athlete Blake Carlino has been selected as the Male Spotlight Athlete of the Month for the month of March.

On the indoor circuit, Blake Carlino holds three individual school records and took part in two record setting relays. Carlino clocked times of 23.843 seconds in the 200-meter dash, 38.53 seconds in the 300 and 50.71 seconds in the 400, setting the indoor school record in each event.

Ruell Chappell, Garrad Straube, Patrik Elkins and Carlino fielded a 4x400 relay team that put together a record-setting time of 3 minutes, 33.85 seconds. Kenton Wilson, Carlino, Preston Henze and Tyler Pasley made up a 4,000 distance-medley relay that compiled a time of 10:33.785 for an indoor school record.

Pasley, Carlino, Brendan Kroeger and Henze made up a 4,000 distance-medley relay that captured first place (10:50.68) in the Lewis Invitational. Carlino also captured third (52.62) in the college division of the 400 in the UIndy Tom Hathaway Distance Classic.

During the outdoor season, Carlino raced to a school-record time of 51.60 seconds in the 400 in the ESU Spring Open. Henze, Chappell, Carlino and Kroeger also made up the record-holding 4x400 relay after posting a time of 3:29.26 in the GLVC Outdoor Championships last season.
