Box Score The UIS baseball team earned an 11-6 win over Walsh on Saturday at the Atlantic Region Crossover in West Virginia, powered by a historic day at the plate from junior transfer Corey Boyette and a strong start on the mound from Trey Carter.

Trey Carter set the tone on the mound. He worked around a single in the first to keep Walsh off the board, and the Prairie Stars were unable to capitalize on an early opportunity when Corey Boyette tripled with two outs in the bottom half but was left stranded.

Carter was sharp again in the second, allowing one hit while striking out three. In the bottom of the inning, UIS put together back-to-back singles from Daker and Ezard but left the runners on base, keeping the game scoreless.

Walsh threatened in the third, getting two aboard, but Carter racked up three more strikeouts to escape the inning. The breakthrough finally came in the bottom of the fourth when Kody Morton launched a solo home run to give UIS a 1-0 lead heading into the fifth.

Walsh answered with a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth to tie the game at 1-1. The Prairie Stars responded immediately. Boyette delivered the big swing of the day, crushing a three-run homer to put UIS back in front, 4-1. Daker followed with an RBI single, and an error brought home another run as UIS surged ahead 6-1 by the end of the fifth.

Kasey took over on the mound and Walsh scratched across a run in the sixth on a double and an error to make it 6-2. The Prairie Stars answered in the bottom half with another five-run frame. Boyette drove in two with a double, Griffitts added an RBI single, and Ezard capped the inning with a two-RBI double to extend the lead to 11-2.

Boyette completed the cycle in the seventh inning with a single, finishing a standout performance at the plate.

Walsh mounted a late rally with a three-run homer and an RBI single to trim the deficit to 11-6, but Austin Loberger helped UIS close the door from there to secure the victory.

Carter finished with eight strikeouts in his start, and Boyette's cycle highlighted an 11-run effort as the No. 19 Prairie Stars won another game at the crossover.

"Trey Carter was exceptional, giving us five strong innings and eight Ks," said head coach Chris Rodriguez. "His ability to keep hitters off balance is what allowed him to give us a quality start. Our offense was fantastic, scoring 11 runs on 17 hits. I thought they did a great job of controlling the strike zone which led to crooked numbers in the 5th and 6th. Our offense was led by Corey Boyette who hit for the cycle. We are very proud of his commitment, this is a moment we are going to celebrate and enjoy."
