UIS head baseball coach
Chris Rodriguez announced the promotion of
Will Oberg to associate head coach. Oberg, who has played a key role in the team's offensive production and player development, was elevated after three seasons as an assistant coach.
Oberg has contributed to the program's success in player development and recruiting, including helping the Prairie Stars return to the NCAA postseason in 2026, their first appearance since his senior season as a player in 2023.
"During my time at UIS, our program has been among the nation's best offensively. Will has been instrumental in the development of our players and in recruiting—both of which have been key to our on-field success," stated head coach
Chris Rodriguez. "His promotion has been earned and is a reflection of how valuable he is to continuing our winning tradition moving forward."
UIS continued to rank among the GLVC's top offensive teams in 2026, leading the conference in home runs while also ranking near the top in batting average, hits, runs scored and extra-base hits. The Prairie Stars also produced one of the top offensive seasons in program history, ranking third all-time in RBIs, home runs and walks in a single season, and fourth in batting average and total hits.
Coach Oberg will enter his fourth season on the UIS coaching staff in the upcoming 2026-27 season.
