The NCAA announced on Sunday that the University of Illinois Springfield baseball team will host the 2022 NCAA Division II Midwest Super Regional. The Prairie Stars will face Quincy at the UIS Baseball Field on May 27-28 in a best-of-three series to determine which GLVC team will advance to Cary, N.C. for the NCAA Division II National Championships.

Game one of the series will be Friday at 1 p.m. Game two will take place on Saturday at 11 a.m., and, if needed, the deciding game will be held 30 minutes after the conclusion of the second contest.

UIS will bring a 46-8 overall record into the Super Regionals. The Prairie Stars have won 10 straight, including going 3-0 at the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional this weekend. UIS clinched the regional tournament title with a 6-3 win over Wayne State.

UIS finished first in the GLVC Blue Division this year, and won the GLVC Tournament.

Quincy starts Super Regional play with a 36-23 overall mark. The Hawks are 6-3 in postseason play, including winning three straight at their Midwest Regional to win that bracket. Quincy clinched its trip to Springfield, Ill. with a 9-7 victory over Davenport in the finals.

Quincy was runner-up this season to UIS in both the GLVC Blue Division, and in the conference tournament.

UIS and Quincy have played five times this season, with Quincy winning three games. Quincy won three of four games in the regular season, before UIS won the biggest matchup by a 16-3 score in the GLVC Tournament. The teams have not met this year in Springfield, where UIS is currently 23-1 on the year at the UIS Baseball Field.

Tickets for the event will all be general admission tickets, and can be purchased with cash only at the field on game days. The ticket gate will open 90 minutes before first pitch both days. Prices are $10 for adults, and $5 for youths (ages 5-17), seniors, and students (with school ID). There will not be a pass list for admission.
