Baseball Collects More Regional Postseason Awards

Postseason honors continue to come in for the University of Illinois Springfield baseball team. On Wednesday, the D2CCA All-Midwest Region teams were announced. Third baseman Zion Pettigrew earned another Region Player of the Year honor. Designated hitter Kal Youngquist and pitcher Chad Saner were also first-team all-region.
 
Pettigrew is hitting .450 on the season with a .979 slugging percentage and .527 on-base percentage. He has 63 hits in 36 games, and has also recorded 52 runs, 19 doubles, and 17 home runs. Pettigrew leads NCAA Division II in slugging percentage, and is top-five in batting average, doubles per game, and hits per game.
 
Youngquist is the team leader with 58 RBI this season, and is one of the nation's leaders with 21 doubles. He is batting .426 with a .772 slugging percentage and .505 on-base percentage.  He has recorded 69 hits, 48 runs, and 11 home runs.
 
Saner ranks in the top-25 in NCAA Division II in ERA, hits allowed per nine innings, and victories. He is 8-0 in 11 starts with a 2.03 ERA. He has struck out 54 batters in 48 2/3 innings, and has allowed just 30 hits and 18 walks. Opponents are batting just .178 off of him this season.
 
The UIS baseball team starts NCAA Regional Tournament play in St. Charles, Mo. on Thursday at 11 a.m. against Northwood.
