The University of Illinois Springfield men's soccer team starts GLVC Championship Tournament play on Monday. The Prairie Stars are the eighth-seed in the event, and will travel to the top-seed Indianapolis for a first-round game.

UIS went 4-3-3 during the regular season, and its 1.5 points per game average placed the team in the postseason tournament for the fourth straight year. The Prairie Stars went 2-1-0 over their final three games, including scoring a season-high four goals in their regular season finale victory over nationally-ranked Maryville.

Earlier this season, UIS and Indianapolis played to a 0-0 tie. Indianapolis had a big advantage in total shots, but
Pijus Petkevicius made eight saves to preserve a tie.

UIS enters the postseason with the number two defense in the GLVC. The Prairie Stars have a 0.55 GAA, and have collected shutouts in half of their games. Offensively, they are scoring 0.90 goals a game, and they have five goals over the last three games.

Goalie
Pijus Petkevicius has been one of the best in the GLVC this season. He is first with a .872 save percentage, and second with a 0.55 GAA. Offensively, nine different players have scored goals for the Prairie Stars this season.
Conal Gallagher leads the team with two assists and four points.

UIS will be looking for its first win in a GLVC Tournament. Last season, it lost in tournament play in overtime at Maryville by a 2-1 margin.

Indianapolis enters postseason play as the No. 4 team in NCAA Division II. The Greyhounds are unbeaten on the season with an 11-0-3 mark. Two of the three ties have come in their last three contests, and the third was earlier this year against UIS.

Indianapolis is the number one defensive team in the conference, as it has a 0.34 GAA on the season. It has nine shutouts, and only allowed 32 shots on goal. Offensively, the Greyhounds are second in the league with 1.93 goals a game. They are tied for first with 24 assists on their 27 goals.

Alejan Stenwascher is second in the league with nine goals and 20 points. Cole Rainwater is also among conference leaders with six goals and 14 points. Jakub Olczyk and Michael Tselios have combined to set up 11 goals. In goal, Dimitrios Karousos has a 0.34 GAA, .844 save percentage, and seven shutouts.Â

The winner of Monday's contest will advance to the GLVC Semifinals, which will take place on Friday in St. Charles, Mo. The championship match will be at noon on Sunday, April 25, in St. Charles.
