Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Prairie Stars Strike First in Loss at Maryville

UIS Men's Soccer lost to Maryville 4-1 on Saturday. The Prairie Stars put all 10 of their shots in the first half, while Maryville finished with a 24-10 shot advantage.

Illinois Springfield struck first in the 29th minute, as Jacob Shaw scored off Donovan Faletto's assist to open a 1-0 lead. Earlier, Kevin Kardel kept the match scoreless with three saves during a Maryville (MO) push, and the Prairie Stars generated six shots before Shaw's goal. Maryville (MO) equalized on Enzo Manga Mbassa's goal in the 41st minute, sending the match to halftime tied 1-1.

The Prairie Stars spent much of the second half defending after Maryville (MO) scored at 47:36 to move ahead 2-1. Kardel made four saves in the half, including two during a Maryville (MO) surge in the 64th and 65th minutes, but the home side added goals at 66:03 and 89:03. Illinois Springfield was held scoreless in the half as the match ended 4-1.

Shaw scored the Prairie Stars' goal and led the team with four shots, including one shot on goal. Faletto recorded the assist. Kardel made nine saves over 90 minutes, with five in the first half and four in the second.

"We started this game off very strong," said head coach Graham Shaw. "As the game went on, we created several good opportunities and took a deserved lead. Their goal right before halftime took the wind out of us. We kept working hard but ultimately ran out of steam. Our focus now moves to Wednesday's game."

Up next, the Prairie Stars visit Lewis on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. in Romeoville, Ill.
