The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team is among the final 16 teams remaining in the NCAA Division II baseball tournament for the first time in program history. The Prairie Stars will travel to Ashland, Ohio this weekend for a best-of-three series against Ashland in the NCAA Division II Midwest Super Regional.

The Prairie Stars advanced after going 3-0 at last week's regional tournament. UIS defeated Drury twice, including an 11-5 win in the title game, and Wayne State once.

Ashland lost its opening game at regionals, but won four straight to capture its regional title. The Eagles defeated Tiffin twice on Saturday by scores of 7-6 and 15-5 to win the tournament.

Ashland was ranked first in the final regional rankings of the season, while UIS was second.

The two teams have played just once before, with Ashland winning 9-3 in a 2013 game in Florida.
