INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) men's track and field team broke five indoor school records in the two-day UIndy Tom Hathaway Distance Classic, which concluded on Saturday.

"It was a good meet across the board," UIS coach
Mike De Witt said. "It was lots of fun competing hard and with lots of confidence."

The 4,000-meter distance medley relay of
Preston Henze,
Brendan Kroeger,
Blake Carlino and
Garrad Straube claimed third in the college division with an indoor school record time of 10 minutes, 44.09 seconds. Also topping the previous mark for the indoor school record for the 4,000 distance medley relay was the team of
Kenton Wilson,
Ruell Chappell,
Patrik Elkins and
Tyler Pasley, which took fourth (10:50.48) in the college division.

Carlino earned fourth (52.62) in the 400, setting an indoor school record. Chappell also bested the previous indoor school record while locking up 10th (54.28) in the 400.

Kroeger captured fifth (4:28.37) in the 1-mile run, breaking the indoor school record. Henze raced to eighth (4:33.88) in the 1-mile run and
Elliot Nabatov placed ninth (4:34.02) in the 1-mile run. Straube clocked a time of 4:35.07 in the 1-mile run. Henze, Nabatov and Straube all topped the previous indoor school record in the 1-mile run.

Nabatov claimed fifth (9:05.12) in the college division of the 3,000 while breaking the indoor school record.
Tyler Hiserote took sixth (9:17.51) in the college division of the 3,000 while
Ryan Stark took eighth (9:24.95) in the college division of the 3,000.
Nick Reynolds recorded a time of 9:29.79 in the 3,000. Hiserote, Stark and Nabatov all bested the previous indoor school record in the 3,000.

Henze knocked off the indoor school record in the 800 after securing fifth (2:04.25) in the college division.
Drake Claxton earned ninth (2:08.40) in the college division of the 800, also topping the previous indoor school record.

The 4x400 relay team of Kroeger, Straube, Elkins and Chappell finished third (3:36.56).

UIS continues action next week in the Jim Green Invitational on Saturday at 10 a.m. in Jacksonville, IL.
