Box Score OZARK, MO --- The Prairie Stars (31-20) fell in their Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament opener by a score of 10-1 to the Quincy Hawks (29-20). UIS entered the tournament as the three-seed in the east division, taking on the Hawks who qualified as the two-seed out of the west division.Â
Three UIS errors in the first two innings proved costly as Quincy took a 5-0 lead after two frames. Three of the five runs scored were unearned off of second team All-GLVC selection
Adam Gregory (9-3). A run in the fifth was followed by a four-run sixth for the Hawks, breaking the game open and taking a 10-0 lead.Â
UIS scored their lone run of the game in the top of the eighth as
Austin Muench and
Zach Patterson began the inning with back-to-back singles before a walk to
John Sechen loaded the bases. With two outs, a wild pitch scored Muench but UIS was unable to plate any more runs in the inning.
The potent UIS offense was held at bay in the game, totaling just four hits, tying their second lowest output of the season.
Trey Hannam joined Muench, Patterson, and Sechen with hits while
Cole Taylor also drew a walk on the game.Â
Adam Gregory took the loss, throwing 5.2 innings, giving up 10 runs (seven earned) on 10 hits and striking out five.
Austen Kapusinski threw 1.1 innings of scoreless relief before
Sam Geraci entered to also throw an inning of scoreless ball.Â
UIS will face the loser of #4 William Jewell and #1 Southern Indiana at 12:30 pm on Friday as they try and stave off elimination.Â
THINGS TO NOTE: The Prairie Stars re-entered the Midwest Regional rankings, sitting ninth in the most recent poll. UIS is one of six teams from the GLVC in the rankings and are looking for an automatic bid to the NCAA Regional by winning the conference tournament or getting an at-large bid. The selection show will take place on Sunday, May 14th at 9 PM CT,
