Late Goal Sinks Prairie Stars in Season Opener

Box Score
CLEVELAND, TN --- The Prairie Stars fell in the season opener --- and first game under the direction of Adam Hall --- by a score of 2-1 to the Flames of Lee University. Senior Zachary Allevi scored the first goal of the season for the Prairie Stars, an equalizer with 34 seconds left in the half.

A scoreless game for the first 28 minutes, the Flames notched the first goal of the game with 16:24 remaining in the half, using a one-timer to beat goalie, Tommy Geile. The Prairie Stars continued to put pressure on the Flames and eventually broke through and tied the game at one with less than a minute to go in the opening half, as Allevi chipped one over the keeper and equalized the match after the first 45 minutes.

The game remained tied until the final three minutes of regulation when the Flames took the lead in the 87th minute, one they would not relinquish. Both teams fired 15 shots on the night, though ten were on target for the Flames to the Prairie Stars three. Geile recorded eight saves on the night as the last line of defense.

UIS will look to avenge the loss on Saturday as they take on the University of Auburn Montgomery in the final game of the weekend in Cleveland. Game time is set for 4:30 pm ET.
