Prairie Stars Host Lewis for Four-Game Set

SPRINGFIELD, IL --- Although the games will be played on the campus of Illinois Springfield, the Flyers will play all four games as the home team due to the original schedule from the GLVC conference office. Due to a poor weather forecast in Romeoville, the games have been moved from Lewis to UIS.

SETTING THE SCENE
The Prairie Stars (13-12, 4-4) come into the series winning five of their last seven games, and are on their hottest streak of the year in terms of level of competition as well as performance. UIS beat Division I Western Illinois 13-5 before handing #30 Southern Indiana two losses on the opening day of a four-game series. UIS ended up splitting the series with USI but then beat Harris Stowe and Lindenwood in back-to-back mid-week games to improve to 13-12 and jump above .500 on the season.

Lewis (15-8, 5-3) enters the series having lost three of four to the top ranked team in the GLVC, the University of Indianapolis. After dropping the first three games, Lewis came back and won the finale 15-4 to avoid the sweep.

APPROACHING THE CENTURY MARK
UIS has won 93 games in the history of the program, as current head coach, Chris Ramirez, holds 63 of those wins.

OFFENSE VS DEFENSE
The Prairie Stars are seventh in the conference in team batting average, as they have seen their average rise to .301 in the past week. Lewis is second in the league, hitting .329 and ranks in the top-five in seven different offensive categories.

On the other side of the ball, UIS tops the league in opponent batting average, holding hitters to a measly .242 average, eight points lower than the next best team. UIS ranks in the top-five in ten different pitching categories. Lewis is second in the league in homeruns on offense, and UIS has allowed the third fewest homeruns this season, surrendering just ten on the year.

On the mound, Chance Simpson leads all pitchers in ERA, boasting a 1.01 earned run average in seven appearances. The senior right hander has thrown 35.2 innings and given up just four earned runs. He has struck out 31 batters opposed to just six walks. On top of that, he leads all pitchers in opposing batting average, holding hitters to just a .169 average, nine points better than the next pitcher.

ALL-TIME SERIES
Lewis leads the all-time series, winning 12 of 15 match-ups. Of the three UIS wins, two have come in Springfield, including the last games, where the Prairie Stars came away with a 7-3 win.

WHO'S ON DECK
UIS will continue the home stand by hosting a mid-week double header with Robert Morris Springfield on Wednesday, April 13th. UIS has already bested the Eagles once this season, beating them 12-0 on opening day. UIS will then host Bellarmine in a GLVC series the following weekend for games on Saturday and Sunday.
