SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - This is one of the busiest weeks in UIS athletics as all of our spring sports teams are in action throughout the whole week. Baseball kicks things off today after a rescheduled conference series and softball gets things started for the regularly scheduled games of the week.

This Week - Men's & Women's Tennis: April 3 - at Lewis; April 4 - at St. Joseph's
The tennis teams opened conference play against two tough opponents and were not able to overcome them to drop to 0-2 in league play. Freshman
Jane Carter had the No. 12 UIndy player on the ropes in the No. 1 position in singles on Saturday, but the match was decided before she could finish her position and it went down as a no decision.
Both teams did pick up victories in non-conference action last week though. Women's tennis defeated Blackburn on a rainy Wednesday afternoon before the men grabbed an 8-1 victory against Kaskaskia.
The teams take to the road to face Lewis and St. Joseph's on Friday and Saturday, respectively to continue conference play. The Prairie Stars originally had matches scheduled for Thursday, but due to the weather forecast have been forced to cancel.
GolfLast Week - Off
This Week - WGolf: Maryville Invitational, March 29 & 30; MGolf: The Jewell Region, April 3 & 4The women's golf team is back in action today, March 30, to finish play at the Maryville Invitational. At the end of round one, UIS sits in fourth place led by sophomore
Jocelyn Matsen (Springfield, Ill.), who also is in fourth place overall.
The men's team travels to Batavia, Ohio on Friday for The Jewell Region tournament at the Elks Run Golf Course.
SoftballLast Week - March 28 vs Bellarmine - L, 2-0 / W, 1-0; March 29 vs No.16 Southern Indiana - L, 6-4, L, 5-0UIS softball moved to 7-5 in league action and now sits in sixth place in the GLVC. The Prairie Stars split a pair of games with Bellarmine before dropping both to No. 16 Southern Indiana.
Sophomore
Taylor Bowlby was named the GLVC Pitcher of the Week last week after posting a 5-0 week.
Ashli King continues to lead the Stars at the dish with a .333 average and a team-leading four home runs.

This week, the Prairie Stars play eight games in six days, beginning with a doubleheader at Indianapolis. UIS looks to save the series against UIndy after dropping the first two games of the series on Sunday. On Wednesday, the Prairie Stars host their first true home game against McKendree. Then over the weekend, Saint Joseph's comes to town for a four-game series. Stay tuned to UISPrairiestars.com for schedule changes and updates during the week.
Junior
Aaron Kuper (Highland, Ill.) and freshman
Michael Rothmund (Lombard, Ill.) lead the team offensively with batting averages of .315 and .311, respectively. Rothmund has hit safely in 10 of his last 13 games and leads the team in slugging percentage (.578).
