SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Winter weather is the story of the week as both the softball and baseball teams have moved home games to more playable locations. Men's and women's golf is also in action in Vegas.

Men's and Women's Golf
Last Week - Feb. 23 & 24 at JSU Frito Lay/All State Intercollegiate - MGolf placed 5th
This Week - Monday, March 2 - Second round action at the UMSL Desert Classic for MGolf/WGolf

Both UIS golf teams traveled to Las Vegas on Sunday to play in the UMSL Desert Classic at the Pauite Golf Course. The men's squad is in 13th out of 17 teams after one round of play. Sophomore Talon Supak fired a 77 to lead the team. The women are in ninth place after round one. Junior Becca Ramirez leads the team with a score of 83. The final round of play is set to conclude on Monday.

The Prairie Stars look to open their home slate away from their home field due to field conditions in Springfield. UIS is looking to move the games across town to Chatham Spartan Park. Stay tuned to UISPrairieStars.com for further updates. Softball opens the week against Hillsdale and ends with Lake Superior State - both from the GLIAC.

Brittany Miller is currently leading the team with a .500 average and .950 slugging percentage. She has a team-best seven RBI on 10 hits including three doubles. In the circle, Taylor Bowlby owns a 1.80 ERA with a 3-2 record and 13 strikeouts. Alexandria Smith has fanned a team-high 27 batters and owns a 3.47 ERA.

The UIS Baseball team opened its season this past weekend, finishing with a 3-2 record against Tiffin and Rockhurst at ES Rose Park in Nashville, Tenn. 22 players made their UIS debuts. Starting pitchers Matt Farrington (Orland Park, Ill.), Max Biedrzycki (Bolingbrook, Ill.) and Gavin Collins (Camp Verde, Ariz.) earned their first wins as Prairie Stars. Farrington pitched 7 2/3 shutout innings in the team's first win of the season on Saturday against Tiffin.

This week, the Prairie Stars host a four-game series with Truman State. Because of the winter weather conditions, the series has been moved to  GCS Park in Sauget, Ill., home of the Gateway Grizzlies.
