SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - It is spring break for the University of Illinois Springfield, but our spring teams aren't taking a break and are in full force this week. Softball and tennis host home contests while baseball and golf head out on the road.

Tennis
Last Week Week - Tuesday, March 10 - Women's Tennis vs. Greenville - W, 8-1.; Thursday, March 12 - Tennis vs. UMSL Men L, 9-0, Women L, 9-0.; Friday, March 13 - Men's Tennis vs. Illinois Valley - W, 9-0

UIS was busy last week with each team playing two matches. The women opened up competition with an 8-1 victory on Tuesday before dropping a 9-0 decision to UMSL on Thursday. On the men's side, UIS hosted No. 36 UMSL and was unable to come away with any victories, but bounced back against Illinois Valley with a 9-0 win on Friday.

The Prairie Stars host the UIS Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Both teams will play Lewis & Clark CC as well as Calumet St. Joseph's, but women will host Kentucky Wesleyan and the men play Prairie State to close out the weekend.

Golf
Last Week - UIS Spring Invite - 4th place
This Week - March 19 at UIS Beach Bash


The men's golf team is back in action after playing at the UIS Spring Invite in St. Louis, Mo. at the Missouri Bluffs Golf Course last week. Sophomore Talon Supak (Washington, Ill.) earned medalist honors at the tournament after winning a playoff with Maryville's Jack McKinney. The team finished in fourth place after shooting their best round of the season on Sunday.

This week, the Both the men's and women's teams travel to Daytona Beach, Fla. for the UIS Beach Bash on Thursday, March 19.

Softball
Last Week - March 15 at Maryville W, 5-2; W, 11-3

UIS opened conference play with two wins against Maryville. The Prairie Stars now keep their attention on conference action against No. 4 UMSL on Monday before playing  a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday against Benedictine-Springfield. UIS then hosts Quincy and Truman on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Baseball
This Week - March 15 vs Quincy 12 p.m., 2 p.m.; March 18 at Kentucky State 12 p.m., 3 p.m.; March 19 at UMSL 2 p.m.; March 20-22 at Marvyille

This week, the Prairie Stars wrap up a four-game series with Quincy after splitting games one and two with the Hawks. UIS then hits the road for a stretch of seven games in five days. Stay tuned to UISPrairieStars.com for further updates. 

Pitching has dominated the early part of the UIS season. The Prairie Stars boast three pitchers with an earned-run-average under 2.00. Through nine games senior Alex Bradley (Peoria, Ill.) leads the team at the plate with a .297 batting average and five runs-batted-in.
