Men's Basketball Travels to St. Joseph's Tournament This Weekend

SPRINGFIELD, IL - The University of Illinois Springfield men's basketball team heads to the St. Joseph's Tournament in Rensselaer, Ind. this weekend for a pair of games against Hillsdale and Ohio Dominican. Game times are set for Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 6 p.m., respectively.

UIS looks to bounce back after a 75-54 loss to Lindenwood at home on Tuesday. The Prairie Stars shot just 30 percent from the floor in the loss. You can follow both games using the links above. You can also listen to Saturday's game against Ohio Dominican via the Ohio Dominican website.

QUICK HITS
  • The Prairie Stars are 2-2 after a 54-75 loss at home to the Lindenwood Lions on Tuesday. UIS shot just 30 percent from the field in the game.
  • Senior Jamall Millison returns for his fourth and final season at UIS. The Bolingbrook native is on track to be the second player to score 1,000 points in program history.

FRESHMAN STANDOUTS
Freshmen Bahari Amaya and Zach Steinberg have had a huge impact for the Prairie Stars in their first four collegiate games. Amaya leads the team in scoring (10.3) while Steinberg leads the team in rebounding (5.8). Amaya is averaging 19 points in his last two games.

THE BALL DOESN'T LIE
Last season, the Prairie Stars shot 47 percent from the floor and 38 percent from three-point range in their 11 wins. In the losses? UIS converted just 38 percent of its shots and 33 percent of its threes.

COMING UP NEXT
After the St. Joseph's Tournament, the Prairie Stars open GLVC play on the road at Bellarmine and Southern Indiana. Last season, Bellarmine reached the final four last season and began this season ranked 4th in the nation.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
HILLSDALE CHARGERS
The Chargers have played only one game so far this season, and it was a good one as they defeated No. 8 Indianapolis 92-87 on November 17.

Senior forward Kyle Cooper scored a game-high 32 points in the win for the Chargers. He shot 12-for-17 from the floor and finished with 10 rebounds.

John Tharp returns for his ninth season as the head coach of Hillsdale. Last season, his squad finished 13-13 and 11-11 in the GLIAC.

OHIO DOMINICAN PANTHERS
The Panthers come to the St. Joseph's Tournament with a 3-1 record after rolling over Silver Lake, 104-69. Two of the team's three wins are against GLVC teams including Maryville and Truman State.

Before playing the Prairie Stars on Saturday, the Panthers take on tournament host St. Joseph's on Friday at 8 p.m. CST.

Three players average at least 10 points for ODU led by senior forward Trent Weaver (18.3). Weaver is shooting 60 percent from the floor and is averaging 9.3 rebounds per contest.

Dan Evans returns for his third season at the helm of the ODU program. He was formerly an assistant at Hillsdale College.
