Nick Hawn has joined the University of Illinois Springfield men's basketball coaching staff as an assistant coach ahead of the 2026-27 season, arriving in Springfield from the University of Dubuque.

Coach Brock has done an amazing job building the team success and culture here at UIS, and the opportunity to coach in a competitive conference like the GLVC also stood out to me. I'm looking forward to building relationships with our student-athletes and helping contribute to the continued success of the Prairie Stars basketball program. I can't wait to get to work!"
Hawn spent the previous two seasons as a graduate assistant with the University of Dubuque men's basketball program. During his time with the Spartans, he assisted with recruiting, film breakdown, scouting, player development, fundraising, and social media while also serving as the program's Head Varsity Reserve Coach.
Dubuque posted a 38-16 overall record and 23-9 conference record during Hawn's two seasons, including a 2025 American Rivers Conference Regular Season Championship. Nine players earned All-American Rivers Conference honors during his time on staff. As the Head Varsity Reserve Coach, Hawn led the team to back-to-back winning seasons and saw several players contribute to the varsity level.
Prior to Dubuque, Hawn was a dual-sport student-athlete at North Central College, competing in basketball and track & field. He earned Academic All-CCIW honors in basketball and was part of three consecutive CCIW Indoor and Outdoor Team Championships in track & field.
Hawn began his coaching career in 2020 with a local AAU program in Des Moines, Iowa, coaching high school and middle school teams during the spring and summer seasons. A native of West Des Moines, Iowa, Hawn earned his bachelor's degree in management from North Central College in 2024 and his master's degree from the University of Dubuque in 2026.
