The year of 2014 brought us many great moments in University of Illinois Springfield Athletics. To close out the year, the Prairie Stars will count down the top 14 moments of 2014. Events will range from academic successes, winning games and highlighting individual accomplishments.
#11 - UIS Golf Thrives in 20142014 was a great year for UIS men's and women's golf as the teams posted strong spring and fall seasons.
In the spring, the women's squad placed first or second in four different tournaments, capping off the season with a fifth place finish at the GLVC tournament, its highest finish ever.
Casara Marsaglia earned All-GLVC honors for tying for fifth place at the tournament. Junior
Becca Ramirez (Springfield, Ill.) led the Prairie Stars in 2013-14 with a stroke average of 81 and, with sophomore
Jocelyn Matsen (Rochester, Ill.), lead the team into 2015.
The men's squad put together strong spring and fall seasons led by
Jacob Wherley (Ozark, Mo.) and young guns
Trevor Flota (Mount Vernon, Ill.),
Nathan Goecks (Lannon, Wis) and
Talon Supak (Washington, Ill.). In the spring season, the Prairie Stars placed first at both tournaments they hosted. The team also finished eighth and sixth, respectively, at the two region tournaments, and just narrowly missed making it to the NCAA Regionals.
UIS carried that success into the fall, placing second at the Arch Cup and the Dan Salisbury Memorial Collegiate Invite. Sophomore
Nathan Goecks (Lannon, Wis.) earned all-tournament honors at the Salisbury for his fifth-place finish with a score of 151.
