The UIS athletic department is pleased to announce the appointment of Kam Baker as an athletic trainer, effective June 2026. Baker joins UIS after working with club sports at the University of Michigan and will primarily support the Prairie Stars men's soccer, men's basketball, and cheerleading programs.

Baker, an alumnus of Iowa State University, recently completed a fellowship at the University of Michigan, where he was part of a two-person team responsible for the care of all Michigan club sports. His experience spans soccer, track & field, softball, basketball and more. While completing his graduate studies, Baker gained hands-on experience with collegiate athletic teams and in both emergency and family medicine environments.

"We are excited to add Kam to our sports medicine staff," said head athletic trainer Chris Camburn. "His diverse experiences working with athletes at the collegiate, club sport, high school, and professional levels make him an outstanding addition to our healthcare team. We look forward to the energy and professionalism he will bring to our department and the positive impact he will have on the health and performance of our student-athletes."

Baker's clinical experiences also include work in secondary schools, physical therapy clinics, and professional sports. Those opportunities helped shape his approach to sports medicine and reinforced the importance of adaptability, trust, communication, and collaboration—qualities he plans to bring to UIS.
