The UIS athletic department recorded a 3.62 cumulative GPA across its NCAA programs during the Spring 2026 semester. The strong team performances were reflected across the board, as fifteen of UIS' seventeen programs averaged above a 3.60 GPA.

UIS Women's Tennis led all programs with a 3.93 team GPA, while Men's Tennis paced the men's programs with a 3.68 team GPA.

"The outstanding performance of our student-athletes in the spring semester is a testament to the hard work of the students and their ability to balance outstanding performances in the classroom while competing at a high level in athletics," said UIS director of athletics Mike Hermann. "I also salute the contributions of our coaches for setting the right culture, the campus learning center, the academic advisors, and the faculty, who provide the flexibility that enables our student-athletes to excel in both academics and athletics."

The 3.62 GPA follows a 3.63 mark in the Fall 2025 semester, highlighting the department's consistency in the classroom. It also marks the fifth consecutive semester UIS student-athletes have posted a cumulative GPA above 3.50.

Of the department's 235 student-athletes, 50 earned perfect 4.0 GPAs during the semester, accounting for more than 20 percent of all Prairie Star student-athletes. In total, 172 student-athletes — 73.1 percent of the department — recorded GPAs of 3.50 or higher.
