Six UIS Tennis Players Earn CSC Academic All-District Honors

The College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Teams featured six student-athletes from the UIS tennis program, with three representatives each from the men's and women's teams.

For the women's team, Cristina Mendoza Romero, Ema Norma Bordean, and Niamh Grogan earned recognition. Representing the men's team were Pablo Herrera, Lukas Pieringer, and Lin En Tan.

The CSC Academic All-District Team recognizes student-athletes who maintain at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA, meet rigorous competition requirements, and have reached sophomore standing both academically and athletically. 

Mendoza Romero and Herrera advanced to the CSC Academic All-America ballot following their Academic All-District honors.

An All-GLVC selection this spring, Cristina Mendoza Romero collected the first postseason accolade of her two seasons at UIS. The graduate student put up a 10-9 singles record while playing primarily at No. 2 and posted an 11-9 doubles mark. She studied business administration at UIS.

Pablo Herrera collected All-GLVC honors for the third time in his career this spring. The senior was also named the UIS Male Senior Scholar and received the GLVC Postgraduate Scholarship. He finished the season 14-4 in singles play at the No. 1 position and compiled a 10-8 doubles record. Herrera majored in computer science at UIS.

Ema Norma Bordean, a sophomore studying psychology, competed at No. 1 singles and finished with a 6-14 singles record while posting an 11-9 doubles mark.

Niamh Grogan, a junior who competed in the middle of the lineup, recorded a 5-14 singles record and went 11-9 in doubles competition. She studies mathematical sciences at UIS.

Lin En Tan wrapped up his senior season with a 12-6 singles record, primarily at No. 2 singles, while adding a 9-9 doubles record. He studied computer science as well.

Lukas Pieringer, a sophomore studying business administration, finished the year with a 3-8 singles record and an 11-6 doubles mark.
