The No. 15-ranked University of Illinois Springfield baseball team heads to Rolla, Missouri this weekend for another key GLVC matchup, facing Missouri S&T in a battle between two of the top teams in the conference.
Originally scheduled to begin on Friday, the series has been adjusted due to rain in the forecast. The teams will now play doubleheaders beginning at noon on both Saturday and Sunday.
UIS enters the weekend at 26-8 overall and 14-2 in GLVC play after winning three of four games at Truman State last weekend. The Prairie Stars followed that performance with a 7-2 road win at Missouri-St. Louis on Tuesday.
UIS and Missouri S&T are tied atop the GLVC standings entering the weekend, adding even more importance to the four-game series. The matchup is also a rematch of the 2025 GLVC Championship final.
Richie Snider was named GLVC Pitcher of the Week after turning in a dominant outing at Truman State. The right-hander pitched five innings with nine strikeouts to help UIS secure a key win in the series. He also added a perfect inning of relief in Tuesday's win over UMSL.
Pitching has continued to be a strength for UIS throughout the season. The Prairie Stars lead the GLVC with a 5.64 ERA and have held opponents to a .276 batting average, both marks ranking first in the conference. UIS has also recorded 268 strikeouts in 274.1 innings.
Offensively, the Prairie Stars remain one of the most dangerous lineups in the league. UIS leads the GLVC in home runs and RBIs while also ranking among the conference leaders in runs scored and walks.
Corey Boyette has been one of the top hitters in NCAA DII, batting .442 with 12 home runs and 40 RBIs.
Tommy Atkinson is hitting .419 with 10 home runs and 45 RBIs, while
Kaden Griffitts has added 10 home runs and a team-best 49 RBIs while batting .395.
Missouri S&T enters the weekend at 21-10 overall and 14-2 in conference play. The Miners had an uneven start to the season against several strong in-region opponents, including Drury, Grand Valley State, Harding, and Quincy. Missouri S&T dropped eight straight games during that stretch before responding with a 15-game winning streak that is still active.
The Miners have been strong offensively throughout the season, led by Garrett Meyer, who is batting .396 with six home runs and 41 RBIs. Bricen Smith is hitting .403 and has scored 41 runs while stealing 19 bases, and Aiden Cizek is batting .390.
On the mound, Dylan Bates has been Missouri S&T's top starter with a 3.66 ERA and a 6-0 record over 32 innings. Logan Slinkard has added five wins. Andrew Hedgecorth and Jake Schisler round out the starting rotation.
Defensively, UIS enters the weekend ranked second in the GLVC with a .970 fielding percentage, while Missouri S&T ranks ninth at .956.
With two of the conference's top offenses and two teams tied atop the league standings, the series will play a role in the GLVC title race.
