The Illinois Springfield men's golf team delivered a strong performance at the Midwest Collegiate, held Sept. 29-30 at Rock Hollow Golf Club in Peru, Ind. The tournament featured a competitive field hosted by Missouri-St. Louis on one of Indiana's premier public courses.
Peyton Woods led the Prairie Stars, finishing tied for second overall at 5-under 211. He carded rounds of 68, 76, and 67, with a clutch birdie on the 18th hole to secure his runner-up finish. Woods' 67 in the final round was the best of the field, highlighting his ability to perform under pressure.
Freshman
Vilgot Arleback contributed with a 228 total (74-77-77), while
Julien Babineau posted a 230 (85-75-70), and
Sacha Lamraski carded a 234 (80-76-78).
Jake Baldin rounded out the five-player lineup with a 239 (82-77-80). Consistent play helped UIS post a 54-hole score of 900, good for eighth place in the competitive field.
"I was really proud of how every single player on our roster stepped up and contributed a strong round this week," said head coach
Josh Edison. "Rock Hollow proved to be a great test, and the way our team handled it will only help us be better prepared when conference play rolls around in the spring.
Peyton Woods was outstanding, earning a tie for second and posting the low round in both the first and third rounds. That's the kind of elite performance that shows what he's capable of against a very competitive field. Senior
Julien Babineau also gave us a huge lift with an impressive putting display in the final round, carding a two-under to pull our team score even lower. Performances like these across the lineup show that our group is moving in the right direction."
