The UIS softball team is set for a conference road stand in Missouri this weekend. The Prairie Stars will take on Southwest Baptist in Bolivar, Mo., on Saturday, then Rockhurst in Kansas City, Mo., on Sunday. Both days will feature noon doubleheaders.
Illinois Springfield (14-9, 2-2 GLVC)
UIS hosted Parkside for a set of midweek games after opening conference play with a 2-2 record last weekend. The Prairie Stars fell 6-1 and 8-3 to Truman on the road before defeating Quincy 20-0 and 7-5 at home.
In a 6-0 win against Parkside,
Rosie Bartletti pitched a complete game, striking out nine. Four Prairie Stars had two hits, and four recorded doubles. The second game was a 6-5, nine-inning win, in which
Taylor Zawacki earned her first victory of the year.
Koral Keehner had the hit that sent the game to extra innings, and
Jacy Watts walked it off with an RBI single.
Bartletti is on a hot streak, posting a 7-4 record with 77 strikeouts in 14 appearances (5.5 per game) and a 2.73 ERA.
Addyson McClure is 4-2 with a 3.45 ERA, while Zawacki is 1-3 with a 4.70 ERA after securing the extra-inning win against Parkside.
The UIS offense is led by
Ella Brinkley, who is hitting .440 after going 4-for-5 in the 6-5 win on Tuesday. Bartletti is batting .309, and
Malia Bender is hitting .306.
Southwest Baptist (10-12, 4-0 GLVC)
The Bearcats are unbeaten in conference play after defeating UMSL 5-3 and 7-3, followed by a sweep of Lincoln, 4-3 and 5-3. Before conference play, SBU was 6-12 after facing multiple nationally ranked teams, including three games against Pittsburg State, which was receiving votes in the national poll.
Angie Micone leads the Bearcats with a .475 batting average and is the only player on the team hitting above .300. Kate McConville is hitting .291, while Audrey Rahlmann has a .268 average but leads the team with 17 RBIs on 15 hits.
Emma Kreisel leads the pitching staff with a 4-5 record in 10 appearances, including seven starts, and has a 5.30 ERA. Shalie Wooden has also contributed with a 3-3 record and a 6.48 ERA.
UIS leads the all-time series 17-0 since the first matchup in 2011, including an 8-0 record since SBU joined the GLVC.
Rockhurst (6-10, 3-1 GLVC)
After starting the season 3-9, Rockhurst turned things around in conference play, going 3-1 last weekend. The Hawks split with Maryville and defeated UMSL 7-2 and 3-0.
Rockhurst will face No. 16 Indianapolis in a doubleheader on Saturday before hosting UIS.
Madeline McCall leads the Hawks' pitching staff with a 3-5 record, while Braden Riley holds the best ERA at 1.98. Claire Tipton is the team's top hitter, batting .354 with 17 hits and 12 RBIs.
UIS leads the all-time series 21-10 since 2011, with the last three conference series resulting in splits.
