The Illinois Springfield softball team saw its GLVC Tournament appearance come to an end Thursday with a 6-3 loss to Maryville at the EastSide Centre.

UIS collected three doubles and a home run in the game, but Maryville used a four-run third inning to take control before holding off a late Prairie Stars rally.

Rosie Bartletti helped UIS strike first in the opening inning, doubling to left field before stealing third to set the UIS single-season stolen bases record in the final game of her senior season. She later scored on a groundout from Bailey Masching to give the Prairie Stars a 1-0 lead.

Maryville responded in the third inning with four runs to move ahead 4-1, using extra-base hits including a three-run homer to take the lead.

UIS trimmed the deficit in the sixth inning. Hailey Niebrugge singled ahead of a two-run home run from Emme Steward, cutting the Maryville lead to 4-3.

Maryville added two insurance runs in the seventh inning to extend the lead to the eventual 6-3 final.

Bartletti started in the circle for UIS, striking out five batters over 2.1 innings while allowing four runs on five hits. Calista Stahlhut worked the final 4.2 innings, allowing two runs and striking out six.

At the plate, Bartletti finished with two hits, including a double, and stole two bases. Already the program's all-time career stolen bases leader with 143, Bartletti added another single-season record, swiping her 48th bag in the first inning before coming back for her 49th in the sixth. Stahlhut recorded two hits in the game double, while Steward drove in two runs with her sixth-inning homer.

UIS concludes the season with a 32-20 overall record after making its second consecutive appearance in the GLVC Tournament.
