The Illinois Springfield men's basketball team goes on the road to face Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) on Saturday at 3:00 p.m., opening the GLVC portion of its schedule.
Illinois Springfield (3-2)
On Tuesday night, UIS men's basketball fell 65-62 to Cedarville, slipping in the tense final moments of a back-and-forth matchup between two strong Midwestern programs. The Prairie Stars held a 33-29 lead at halftime, but the game stayed tight throughout, and a 36-point second half helped Cedarville edge ahead for the win.
Jordan Rice has brought constant pressure from the opening moments of the season. Through five games, he's averaging 22.6 points per game—the top mark in the GLVC—with three of those performances coming against strong regional opponents.
Isaiah Davis enters the weekend as the GLVC leader in three-pointers per game (4.6), boosted by his eight made threes against Williams Baptist last week.
As a team, UIS ranks among the league's best offensively, sitting behind league-leading Rockhurst in scoring average. The Prairie Stars lead the GLVC in three-point percentage (42%) and hold a strong 1.51 assist-to-turnover ratio, showing sharp execution on the perimeter.
UIS features a roster full of exciting talent, playing fast, sharing the ball well, and applying disruptive defensive pressure.
Missouri-St. Louis (4-2)
UMSL enters Saturday on a four-game winning streak, highlighted by a decisive 78-57 victory over No. 13 Michigan Tech in mid-November. This past week, the Tritons rolled past UHSP 96-52 and earned a 72-61 regional win over Kentucky Wesleyan. In that game, Vincent Davis III scored 14 points while three other Tritons reached double figures as the team shot 47% from the field.
Taye Moore leads UMSL with 17.7 points per game and has knocked down 16 three-pointers while shooting 42.1% from beyond the arc. Both Moore and Miles Boland rank inside the GLVC's top five in assists, giving the Tritons one of the league's most efficient backcourts. As a team, UMSL shoots 50.3% from the field, the second-best mark in the conference, and 40.2% from three, second in the GLVC trailing UIS.
This matchup features two strong offenses, but UIS will look to set the tone defensively and limit the Tritons' efficient shooting.
