The UIS men's basketball team returns home on Tuesday for a 5:00 p.m. matchup against Cedarville, part of UIS's first home doubleheader of the season. The Prairie Stars follow the women's game against St. Francis (IL), which tips off at 3:00 p.m. UIS enters the contest at 3-1 after an impressive week that included a 107–78 win over Williams Baptist, with transfer guard
Isaiah Davis averaging 25.5 points per game across the two victories.
Illinois Springfield (3-1)
UIS enjoyed a productive stretch outside of in-region competition, defeating Judson 92–69 and Williams Baptist 107–78. Head coach Matt Brock noted the team's energy playing in front of the home crowd, and the Prairie Stars look to build on that momentum again Tuesday night as Cedarville visits from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC).
Last week's performances were highlighted by forcing 21 Judson turnovers, three or more double-digit scorers in each game, and strong perimeter shooting that included 16 made three-pointers against Judson and 13 against Williams Baptist.
Davis accounted for eight of those threes in his 29-point performance, making him one of just three UIS players in the program's Division II era to hit that many in a single game. UIS also benefited from a 22-point outing from Jordan Rice, who has returned to action this season and has been a steadying presence for a roster with several newcomers. Rice leads the team with 22.8 points per game. The team's second unit, consisting of four returning players, has also been a point of pride early in the season, providing defensive stability and continuity.
Cedarville (2-2)
Cedarville comes to Springfield with a balanced 2-2 record that includes losses to GLVC programs Quincy (89-80) and Truman State (85-76), as well as a win over Wright State Lake (101-53). The Yellow Jackets' signature performance so far is an upset of No. 14 Lincoln Memorial, in which they erased an 11-point halftime deficit by shooting 65% in the second half.
Anthony Ruffolo leads Cedarville with 16.5 points per game, and is shooting 46% from three. Sam Johnson adds 15.8 points per game while shooting an efficient 62% from the field.
Cedarville's top three scorers—Ruffolo, Johnson, and Curtis Blair III—are all shooting at least 48% from the floor.
