The Illinois Springfield women's soccer team returns to Missouri this weekend for another pair of GLVC matchups — visiting Lincoln on Friday evening in Jefferson City, followed by a Sunday afternoon contest at Missouri-St. Louis.
Illinois Springfield (1-6-3, 0-5-2 GLVC)
UIS looks to regroup after setbacks to Drury and Missouri S&T last weekend. Against Drury, the Prairie Stars equalized early in the second half on a goal from
Addison Wittenberg, but the Panthers responded with two quick goals to secure a 3-1 result. Missouri S&T struck early in Sunday's contest and held off UIS in a 2-0 shutout.
Young Prairie Stars have shown promise offensively. Sophomore
Mallory Herber leads the team with three goals and an assist, while freshmen
Addison Wittenberg and Madeline Festerling each have two goals and an assist.
McKenna Gahagan and
Kalli Drexler have also contributed goals this season, supported by a developing and experienced defensive and midfield unit.
In goal,
Gigi Yurevich and
Makenna Miller have split time, while freshman
Maddie McGregor made her first collegiate appearance last week. Yurevich has started seven games this season and made 19 saves, while Miller owns a .727 save percentage across six appearances.
Lincoln (0-5-2, 0-5-1 GLVC)
Lincoln, now in its second year as a GLVC member, is still seeking its first win of the 2025 campaign. The Blue Tigers' two draws this season have come both at home and on the road. Defensively, the team has struggled, allowing 3.14 goals per game without recording a shutout.
Offensively, Ivanna Faria and Angela Reynolds lead with two goals each, while Kayleb Garrett has added one. In goal, Michelle Granja has played the majority of minutes and holds a .630 save percentage with a 4.00 goals-against average.
UIS won last year's matchup in Springfield 6-1 and leads the all-time series 1-0.
Missouri-St. Louis (5-2-2, 4-0-2 GLVC)
UMSL enters the weekend unbeaten in GLVC play and coming off a 1-1 draw at No. 16 Maryville. The Tritons' only losses came in early September to Pittsburg State and Northwest Missouri State.
The team features a balanced attack led by Ella Anselm with three goals. Four additional players have scored twice, and four others have added one goal apiece. Gwen Maggard and Rachel Skyberg have been key playmakers, each with two goals and two assists.
Goalkeeper Rylee Griffith has been strong in net, allowing just four goals this season while making 12 saves and posting a .750 save percentage. UIS will look to challenge a Tritons defense that has been among the best in the GLVC this season.
