The llinois Springfield men's golf team finished second at the Bearcat Dual Gender, hosted by McKendree at Far Oaks Golf Club in Caseyville, Ill. UIS posted rounds of 295, 302, and 296 for a 54-hole total of 893, finishing just several strokes behind champion Quincy (891) and ahead of Rockhurst (896).
The Prairie Stars faced a strong field of seven other schools — Maryville, Kentucky Wesleyan, Upper Iowa, McKendree, Rockhurst, Quincy and Lewis — and posted consistent performances throughout the event. Leading the way,
Vilgot Arleback tied for sixth with rounds of 76, 74 and 73 for a 223 total.
Jake Baldin and
Sacha Lamraski both carded 225 to tie for 13th, posting 76-77-72 and 77-76-72, respectively.
Julien Babineau (73-75-80) and
Peyton Woods (70-79-79) finished tied for 20th.
Individual competitors also contributed solid performances.
Daniel Edwards shot 76, 73 and 78 for a 227 total, finishing tied for 18th.
Sahachat Noosong carded 80, 75 and 75 for a 230 total, tying for 26th. Charlie Prins added rounds of 84, 75 and 81 for a 240 total, finishing 50th.
"I am really proud of how our team handled the wind and adversity this week. The second and third rounds were a grind, but they stayed patient and competed until the last putt dropped," said head coach
Josh Edison. "Vilgot posting a top-6 finish as a freshman is incredibly impressive and speaks volumes about his poise and potential, that also bodes well for the future of UIS Golf. Jake and Sacha both come up with strong top-15 finishes in tough conditions, and their leadership helped keep us steady when things got challegning. A runner-up finish in a deep field in that kind of weather shows how close this group is to taking the next step and getting a win."
The second-place finish marks a solid showing for the Prairie Stars as they continue their fall season, narrowly missing out on the top spot in a tightly contested event. UIS now turns its focus to a quick turnaround for the Kentucky Wesleyan Invitational, set for Saturday and Sunday in Owensboro, Ky.
