The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team has another series at home against a non-conference opponent in Trevecca Nazarene. The series is scheduled to start on Friday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. before a doubleheader on Saturday morning starting at 11:00 a.m.
UIS (6-4)
The Prairie Stars are coming off their first weekend at home in the 2024 season, which saw them split a four game series against Davenport. The Stars were able to get the bats going over the weekend, as they tallied 50 hits and 46 runs over the four game set. UIS won Game One (16-5) and Four (17-7) of the series, while Davenport took Game Two (9-5) and Three (18-8). UIS earned a big comeback win in Game One behind Brant Vanaman's huge game. Vanaman went 4-for-5 with 7 RBIs on his way to hitting for the cycle. DU took the second game behind a four-run sixth inning to take control of the contest. Sunday's doubleheader was a tale of two games, as both teams recorded a ten-run win each. In the first game of the day, DU scored a flurry of runs in multiple innings to take the lead, but the Stars wouldn't go down without a fight. Davenport pushed across six runs in the top of the seventh to complete the win. In the second game of the day, DU jumped out to another early lead, but the Prairie Stars scored 16 runs over three consecutive innings to take a lead the Panthers couldn't recover from. For his efforts over the weekend, Brant Vanaman earned his first career Player of the Week award. He batted .471 (8-for-17) with a .550 on-base percentage during the weekend. Vanaman totaled 14 RBIs, 7 runs scored, 3 home runs, two doubles, one triple, and hit for the cycle in Friday's game for a 1.235 slugging percentage. Parker Bradford earned the win on Friday in one inning of work, as Adam Wibbenmeyer earned the six-out save. Jack Winterbauer earned the save in Sunday's second game, going three innings while only giving up two hits and totaling four strikeouts.Â
Trevecca Nazarene (6-3)
The Trojans completed a four-game series against Lewis last weekend, winning both Friday games and losing both Saturday games for a 2-2 split with the Flyers. TNU is 4-3 against GLVC opponents this year as they went 2-1 against Maryville the weekend before. Trevecca won both games on Friday, 6-5 and 12-1. On Saturday the Trojans found themselves on the opposite side of the scoreboard, losing 5-6 and 3-10. In both wins TNU took an early lead that Lewis wasn't able to come back from. Game Three of the series was another tight contest, but the Flyers were able to push a run across in the tenth inning to earn their first win of the weekend. In the final game of the series Lewis found themselves leading 4-3 going into the sixth, and proceeded to score six more runs to earn the win.Â
The Trojans are led by Haven Mangrum and Cole McCallum at the plate. Mangrum is 18-for-37 (.486) with 6 RBIs, 16 runs scored, two doubles, two triples, and a homerun. McCallum is 12-for-34 (.353) with 14 RBIs, 9 runs scored, five doubles, and three homeruns.Â
