The University of Illinois Springfield softball team appeared in the second edition of the Division II Softball Regional Rankings that were released on Wednesday.Â
UIS, 31-18 against DII opponents and 28-14 in-region, earned the No. 4 spot. The Prairie Stars have won six of their last eight and are sixth in the current GLVC standings, tied at 12-8 with McKendree and Lewis.Â
The Indianapolis Greyhounds topped the Midwest region ranking with their 45-4 record against DII opponents. Grand Valley State and Saginaw Valley took the second and third spots.Â
The Prairie Stars will compete in their final week of regular season competition this weekend against Drury and Southwest Baptist. Seeds for the GLVC Championship Tournament will be announced upon the finish of all regular season games. UIS, tied at 12-8 with McKendree and Lewis, is sixth in the conference standings this week.Â
The NCAA Championship provides for a field of 64 teams. Four teams will participate at each of 16 regional sites in a double elimination tournament May 12-13. The NCAA softball selections will be announced on NCAA.com on Monday, May 8.Â
