The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team welcomes GLVC opponent Maryville to the UIS Baseball Field this week. The teams will play doubleheaders at noon on Friday and 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
No. 20 nationally ranked UIS baseball is 26-8 overall and 16-4 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars, who are 13-3 at home, swept the McKendree Bearcats last weekend. UIS sits at the top of the GLVC standings this week.
Maryville is 21-10 and 11-5 in the GLVC. The Saints are third in the GLVC behind only UIS and Quincy. They put up a fight when they faced the Quincy Hawks last weekend, but only picked up the first game of the series. They went on to win 15-2 in a midweek contest versus Missouri-St. Louis.
Asher Bradd leads the GLVC with his .464 batting average, 64 hits, and 138 at bats. He is also among the top-three in on base percentage (.522), runs scored (40), and doubles (13).
Brandon Bannon also appears in the top-10 with 48 hits and 32 RBIs.
The
individual GLVC standings are crowded with members of the UIS pitching staff as well. UIS puts three pitchers in the top-10 in ERA, opponent batting average, batter struck out, hits allowed (low), runs allowed (low), and batters struck out looking.
UIS leads the all-time series versus Maryville 14-12 and is on a six-game win streak against the Saints.
The Highway Heartburn food truck will be at Saturday's doubleheader. The Senior Day ceremony will occur between games on Saturday.
