Prairie Stars Baseball Set To Host Indianapolis This Weekend

3/23/2023 12:00:00 PM

The 16-6 UIS baseball team is set to host GLVC opponent Indianapolis this weekend at the UIS Baseball Field.

The Prairie Stars fell 18 spots to No. 23 in this week's NCBWA National Poll despite just one loss to the Lewis Flyers in last weekend's series. The University of Indianapolis Greyhounds entered the rankings at No. 21 last week, but dropped out of the rankings in Week 6.

Indianapolis, who was previously the last remaining undefeated team in NCAA Division II baseball, is on a five-game losing streak after being swept by Maryville over the weekend and falling to Findlay on Tuesday.

The Prairie Stars won their first two conference series of the season against Drury and Lewis, going 3-1 against each team.

UIS took the eighth spot in Wayne Cavadi's DII Baseball Power 10 this week. The Prairie Stars lead the nation in strikeouts per nine innings (12.5). Ryan Carmack is the individual leader with an average of 19.04 strikeouts per nine innings. Junior Asher Bradd is 13th in NCAA DII with his .471 batting average.

The teams will play doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday, starting at noon each day.
