The No.12 ranked University of Illinois Springfield baseball team opens its home schedule on Saturday as the Prairie Stars welcome Bemidji State to the UIS Baseball Field. The four-game series will be played as 11 a.m. doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday. 

Bemidji State has yet to open the 2023 season, but went 6-40 in 2022. The Beavers are an NCAA Division II team from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). 

The Prairie Stars are 4-3 after the first two weekends of the season, with losses in their first three games before defeating No. 16 Lenoir-Rhyne 10-3 to close out the four-game series. 

UIS Baseball pitchers have earned the two first GLVC Pitcher of the Week awards of the 2023 season. First was Ryan Carmack, who set the program record for strikeouts in a single game (14 Ks, 5 IP). Connor McKenna is the week two GLVC Pitcher of the Week after striking out nine hitters in five innings in a win over Missouri Western. 

Freshman catcher Ivan Dahlberg leads the GLVC in fielding with 57 putouts in 60 chances and four assists. Chad Saner and Ryan Carmack are No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, in the GLVC pitching rankings, while Connor McKenna is also featured in the top-10.
