The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team wraps up its 2022 regular season this weekend with a four-game series against Truman State. UIS enters the weekend just one win away from clinching the GLVC Blue Division regular season title.
 
Last weekend, the Prairie Stars traveled to the University of Indianapolis where they won three of the four games. UIS tallied 23 extra-base hits in the series, 13 of which were home runs.
 
After last weekend's series, UIS is now 36-7 on the season and 16-4 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars are ranked seventh nationally in NCAA Division II, and sixth in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional poll.
 
UIS pitching ranks second in the GLVC in ERA at 4.70. They rank 16th nationally in hits allowed per 9 innings at 8.18, and third nationally in strikeouts per 9 innings at 11.3. The Prairie Stars also have the lowest batting average against in the GLVC which is .239.
 
On the offensive side, UIS is second in the GLVC in team batting average at .336. It is slugging .586, which is the best in the GLVC. The Prairie Stars are also second in the conference in home runs with 82.
 
Quinn Gudaitis comes into this weekend with the hot hand for the Stars. Last weekend at UIndy, Gudaitis pitched six innings, allowed one run on six hits, and struck out nine Greyhound hitters. Cam Zunkel also pitched 3.2 innings of one-run ball, striking out four. 
 
Zion Pettigrew earned GLVC Player of the Week honors for UIS due to his performance this past weekend. Pettigrew had a slugging percentage of 1.118, an on base percentage of .545, scored seven runs, had 12 RBIs, and hit four home runs. Brant Vannaman also hit three home runs.

Truman State comes to Springfield with a 17-29 overall record, and a 7-13 record in conference play. Last weekend Truman State went 1-3 versus Lewis.
 
The Bulldogs have a team batting average of .270, and Truman State ranks eighth in the GLVC with a team ERA of 6.76.
 
Holden Missey leads the team in offense with a batting average of .357. He also has 12 home runs and 16 doubles. He leads the team in total bases with 110 and runs scored with 30. Zachry Schneider leads the pitching staff for Truman State. He has thrown 72 2/3 innings this season and boasts a 3.10 ERA. Opponents are batting .256 against Schneider.
 
Last season, the Prairie Stars defeated the Bulldogs in all four of their meetings.
