The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team, which is ranked seventh in the latest national poll, has made the NCAA Tournament field for the fourth straight time. It will compete in this week's Midwest Regional #2 Tournament in Detroit, Mich.

UIS is the three seed and will face sixth-seed Ashland on Thursday at 11 a.m. (eastern) at Harwell Field. The other teams in the regional are the host school, Wayne State, and Walsh. The winner of this double-elimination tournament will advance to the NCAA Super Regional the following week.

UIS made history last week by winning its first GLVC Tournament Championship. The Prairie Stars defeated Quincy by a 16-3 score in the championship contest.

UIS will enter play this week with a 43-8 overall record. The 43 victories is the second-most in program history, and the third 40-win campaign since 2018.
