Baseball Starts GLVC Play Friday At Rival Quincy

The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team heads to Quincy this weekend to begin its conference season. The matchup will be between the top two teams in the GLVC Green Division during the 2021 season.
 
The Prairie Stars are rolling into Quincy on a 13-game winning streak. Last weekend, they completed a sweep against Maryville University where they hit 11 home runs throughout the three-game series and scored 35 runs.
 
UIS enters the weekend with a 17-3 record and ranked 13th nationally in NCAA Division II.
 
On the defensive side, UIS pitching leads the GLVC with a 4.77 ERA. They come in ranked fifth in NCAA Division II at 12.3 strikeouts per nine innings.
 
Offensively, the Prairie Stars are hitting .345 as a team, ranking sixth nationally in Division II. They also lead the conference in home runs with 45 which is also the sixth-most home runs of any team in Division II. UIS is ranked third in NCAA Division II, scoring 11.2 runs per game.
 
Colton Hale leads the pitching staff with 27 innings pitched and a 2.67 ERA. Opponents are batting .188 against Hale. He also tied the UIS record for career wins last weekend at Maryville where he recorded win number 22 of his career.
 
Austin Alderman enters conference play as the most recent GLVC Player of the Week award winner. This past week, Monday against Mckendree and this weekend at Maryville, Alderman batted .611 with a slugging percentage of 1.444. Alderman hit four home runs during this stretch.

Quincy enters conference play with a record of 9-9. This past weekend Quincy dropped a four-game series to Davenport University losing three of four games.

The Quincy offense is hitting .300 as a team and averaging 7.8 runs per game. The offense is led by Gino D'Alessio, who is hitting .412 on the season and has an on-base percentage of .518.

From a pitching perspective, Spencer Walker has thrown 30.1 innings for the Hawks and boasts a 3.26 ERA. Alex Pribyl has thrown eight innings out of the bullpen and has struck out 19 of the hitters that he has faced. 

Last season, UIS and Quincy played a three-game series in conference play where the Prairie Stars won two of three contests. However, the Hawks won a close game in the 2021 Midwest Regional Tournament.
