Softball Begins GLVC Play This Weekend, Including Monday's Home Games Versus Missouri-St. Louis

The University of Illinois Springfield softball team begins GLVC play this week. The Prairie Stars travel to Lindenwood on Sunday afternoon, before returning home to face Missouri-St. Louis on Monday. 
 
UIS starts conference action with its best 18-game start in program history. The Prairie Stars are 14-4 on the year, including four wins in their last five contests. 
 
The Prairie Stars are ranked in the top-five in the GLVC in both offense and defense. Offensively, UIS is scoring over six runs a game, and it is fifth nationally with nearly four stolen bases a game. On the mound, UIS has a 2.64 ERA, and it leads the conference with a .973 fielding percentage. 
 
Pitcher Reagan Miles went 2-0 with one save during the team's action at the Springfield Invitational last week. She is now 4-0 on the season with a 1.99 ERA, and has a team-high 29 strikeouts in less than 32 innings. 
 
Offensively, Carly Chovanec, Danielle Dennis, and Carolyn Franke are all batting over .400. Chovanec leads the team with 22 runs, and Dennis has a team-best 23 RBIs.

Lindenwood will enter GLVC play with a 13-3 overall record. The Lions are on a seven-game winning, and they are 4-0 on their home field. 
 
Lindenwood is led by Amanda Weyh. The pitcher is 9-0 on the mound with a 0.60 ERA and a .167 opponent batting average. She has 68 strikeouts in 58 2/3 innings. 
 
Offensively, Whitney Kisner leads the team with a .368 batting average and .415 on-base percentage. Whitney Wendel has a team-best .520 slugging percentage, and has 12 RBI. Taylor Bushman leads the team with 14 runs. 
 
Last season, UIS was swept by Lindenwood in a pair of games in Chatham. The Lions won by scores of 17-4 and 8-4.

Missouri-St. Louis begins GLVC play on Sunday at Lewis, prior to coming to Springfield the next day. The Tritons are 11-8 on the season after going 6-3 on their Florida swing last week. 
 
The offensive leader for the Tritons is McKenzie Lamos. She has a .438 batting average, .922 slugging percentage, and .486 on-base percentage. She has collected team-highs of 21 runs, 20 RBI, 16 extra-base hits, and seven home runs. 
 
On the mound, Annie Scaramuzzi has a 4-1 record this season. She has a 1.33 ERA, and has struck out 36 batters in 31 2/3 innings. 
 
Last season, the two teams split a doubleheader in St. Louis. UIS won the first game by a 7-3 margin, and the Tritons won game two by a 3-1 score. 
 
Up Next
UIS is home for a non-conference game on March 17 against Minnesota State, Moorhead. It then quickly returns to GLVC play with road doubleheaders against Southern Indiana and McKendree.
