The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team has reached the NCAA postseason for the third straight time. The Prairie Stars will be the top seed in the Midwest Regional Tournament this week in St. Charles, Mo.
The Prairie Stars will open up the tournament on Thursday with an 11 a.m. contest against Northwood. The sixth-seeded Timberwolves, out of the GLIAC, received the final at-large bid into the bracket.
Other teams in the tournament include second-seeded Trevecca Nazarene, champions of the GMAC, third-seeded Davenport, champions of the GLIAC, fourth-seeded Lindenwood, champions of the GLVC, and fifth-seeded Quincy, an at-large team out of the GLVC.
UIS is 6-4 all-time in the NCAA Tournament. The Prairie Stars advanced to the NCAA Super Regional round in 2019. UIS is 1-0 against Quincy in national postseason play, and it has not faced the other teams in a NCAA regional.
