The University of Illinois Springfield softball team hits the road this weekend for GLVC doubleheaders at Indianapolis and Lewis.

UIS will look to carry some momentum into the road trip after winning three of four games at home last weekend. The Prairie Stars split with McKendree, and then swept a doubleheader against Southern Indiana for the first time in program history. With those results, UIS is now 9-15 on the season, and 4-4 in conference action.

The Prairie Stars are one of the top offensive teams in the GLVC. They rank fourth with 5.12 runs a game. They lead the GLVC, and are tenth in NCAA Division II with 3.12 stolen bases a game, and their 75 total stolen bases are tops in the nation.

UIS has several individuals who are on top of GLVC statistical categories.
Ashley Klinzing leads the GLVC with 31 hits and 14 stolen bases.
Danielle Dennis is first with 19 RBI and tied for the top with seven doubles. Ashley Burrows is also tied with Klinzing in stolen bases.

The Indianapolis softball team is currently 13-2 on the season, including a 4-0 mark in conference play. The Greyhounds have won six straight, and are ranked 11
th in NCAA Division II.

Indianapolis has one of the top offenses in the GLVC, averaging 6.67 runs a game. It also has one of the top pitching staffs, with a 1.71 ERA for the year. The Greyhounds also lead the GLVC in batting average, fielding percentage, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, WHIP, and shutouts.

Haylie Foster leads the GLVC in batting average (.513) and on-base percentage (.548), and Taylor Danielson is the league leader in slugging percentage (.811). Kenzee Smith and Hallie Waters have combined for a 12-1 record on the mound, and both have an ERA under 1.65.

UIS and Indianapolis played five times in 2019. After splitting the two regular season meetings, the Prairie Stars won the matchup in the GLVC Tournament, and Indianapolis won two games over UIS in the NCAA Regional Championship contests.

Lewis will not be in action again until Sunday's doubleheader against UIS. The Flyers are currently 10-9 on the season, including 3-5 in conference action. Last week, Lewis swept a pair of games against Southern Indiana, before falling twice to Indianapolis.

Much like Indianapolis, Lewis is strong both at the plate and on the mound. The Flyers rank fifth in the GLVC with 4.68 runs a game, and it is seventh with a 3.36 ERA.

Sara Serena leads Lewis with a .375 batting average. Elexis Swartzentruber has four homers and 16 RBI, and Cierra Taylor has scored 12 times.

The two teams split their 2019 series in Springfield, Ill. The Prairie Stars lost the first game, 6-5, but rebounded with an 8-0 win in the second contest.
