Baseball Travels To Missouri For Series At Truman State

The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team has its second straight GLVC road series this upcoming weekend. The Prairie Stars will travel to Kirksville, Mo. for four games at Truman State.
 
UIS enters the week with a 10-2 overall record, and a 6-2 GLVC mark. The Prairie Stars are ranked No. 14 in the latest NCAA Division II national poll. Last week, the Prairie Stars took three of four from Lewis. The offense led the team scoring 38 runs throughout the series, including double-figure runs in three contests.
 
Zion Pettigrew has been the top hitter in the GLVC so far this season. He leads the conference in batting average (.500), slugging percentage (1.100), runs (18), doubles (9), home runs (5), and total bases (44). Kal Youngquist has 18 RBI this season, just one behind the league leader.
 
Clarke Davenport is the league leader with a 0.87 ERA. He made his first start of the season in the Lewis series and picked up his first victory. UIS's other three primary starters, Chad Saner, Colton Hale, and Blake Begner, all enter this week with two wins in three starts.

Truman enters play this week with a 0-12 overall record, and a 0-4 GLVC mark. Last weekend, the Bulldogs opened GLVC play by being swept in a four-game series at Indianapolis.
 
Offensive leaders for the Bulldogs include Will Fromm with a .314 batting average, Holden Missey with four runs, three home runs, and three RBI, and Reid Wilson and Evan Kayser with three RBI apiece. Zachry Schneider has been the top pitcher, including striking out 18 batters in 17 1/3 innings.
 
UIS and Truman played their first GLVC series against each other in 2019 in Springfield, Ill. The Prairie Stars averaged over 16 runs a game, and took two of the three contests.
