The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team hits the road for the first time in 2021 this weekend with a four-game series at Lewis in Romeoville, Ill.

UIS, which ranks 14
th in NCAA Division II, opened up the conference season last week by taking three of four games from Lewis. The Prairie Stars allowed just 11 runs in that series, and on the season are giving up just 2.6 runs a game.

Chad Saner and
Colton Hale are both 2-0 on the year on the mound. Sander has a 1.00 ERA and opponents are batting .156 off of him. Hale has a 1.12 ERA, and opponents are batting just .154 against his pitches.

Offensively, the quartet of
Zion Pettigrew,
Bobby Barnard,
Kal Youngquist, and
Chris Mathieu are all batting over .400. They have combined for 29 runs and 41 RBI this season.

Jake Karaba is the team's ace. He is 2-0 this season in three starts. He has a 1.00 ERA and a .145 opponent batting average. At the plate, Joe Preusser has a team-high .414 batting average. Anthony Cavalieri is the team leader with nine runs, and Jackson Dvorak has a team-best eight RBI.
