Softball Outhits Opponents But Goes 0-2 On Final Day Of Drury Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The University of Illinois Springfield softball team had more hits on the day than its opposition, but the Prairie Stars couldn't translate that into victories. The Prairie Stars ended the Drury Invitational with losses to Nebraska-Kearney and Drury.
 
In the Nebraska-Kearney contest, UIS led 2-0 after three innings, and 3-2 after five. The Lopers exploded for six runs though in the sixth inning, and the Prairie Stars eventually fell by an 8-6 margin.
 
Natalie Cokel and Danielle Dennis had six of the team's 11 hits in the game. Dennis had three hits, including a double and homer, and finished with three RBI and two runs. Cokel also had three hits, including a double, and had one run and one RBI. Ashley Klinzing had one RBI and scored twice during the day's first game.
 
The second game against Northwest Missouri went extra innings before UIS fell 9-5. A grand slam in the top of the eighth by the Bearcats was the difference. UIS had eight hits again, including two each by Kelsie Burrows and Calla Wickenhauser. Danielle Dennis had another homer, and finished the game with two runs and one RBI.
 
UIS falls to 1-8 on the season. The Prairie Stars are in action again next weekend at the Emporia State Classic in Emporia, Kan.
