The University of Illinois Springfield men's soccer program made more history on Wednesday morning with its first NCAA All-American in program history.
Marvin Zott was named a third-team defender on the 2021 D2CCA NCAA Division II Men's Soccer All-American list.
Â
Zott was one of the team leaders for a UIS squad which just completed the best season of its NCAA era. Zott was one of two players to start all 21 games this year. He played a team-high 1,869 minutes, which was an average of 89 minutes per game, and he was on the field for 96.6 percent of the team's play.
Â
Zott was part of a defense that had a 1.07 GAA for the season, and allowed just 4.2 shots on goal per game. He helped UIS have six shutouts, and the team allowed more than one goal in just five contests.
Â
Zott also contributed on the offensive end with two goals and one assist. Both of his goals were game-winners in victories over William Jewell and Rockhurst, and he had an assist in the one-goal victory over Lewis.
Â
Zott led UIS to a 13-6-2 overall record, its best mark since 2003. It finished second in both the GLVC Regular Season and GLVC Tournament, and earned the program's first NCAA Division II Tournament bid. UIS advanced to the third-round of the NCAA Tournament after a first-round bye, and a 2-1 overtime victory over Maryville in the second round.
