Men's Soccer Looks To Stay Near Top Of GLVC Standings Against Quincy

10/6/2021 3:00:00 PM

The University of Illinois Springfield men's soccer team is nearing the halfway point of its conference season, and it is still in contention for the GLVC regular season title. The Prairie Stars will continue that pursuit this week with a Friday home contest against Quincy.

UIS starts a stretch on Friday with four straight games against teams at the bottom of the conference standing, giving the Prairie Stars a good chance to make a run at the conference title. UIS, which is 6-3-0 overall and 5-1-0 in GLVC play, is currently second in the league in points per game.

Last week, UIS won its only game with an exciting 2-1 victory over Southern Indiana. The Flyers tied the game with less than four minutes remaining, but Browel Some scored a penalty kick with 2:20 left in the game to give the Prairie Stars the victory. The team's other game last week, against No. 1 Indianapolis, was postponed.

In conference only games, UIS is currently second in the league by allowing just four goals in six games. It is averaging 1.50 goals a game in GLVC play.

Some is now tied for the team-high with eight points, and he has a team-best four assists. Lars Brinkman leads the offense with four goals. Brinkman and Conal Gallagher both had two game-winning scores. Defensively, Pijus Petkevicius has a 1.19 GAA in goal. He has a .738 save percentage and two shutouts.

Each individual GLVC school will determine their own attendance policy for men's soccer. Please check the policies of the home teams if interested in attending a contest. (UIS)
