Men's Basketball Completes Season Sweep Over Lewis

Box Score The University of Illinois Springfield men's basketball team completed the second leg of a season sweep over Lewis on Saturday in Romeoville, Ill. The Prairie Stars held on in overtime to defeat the Flyers by a 78-75 score.
 
UIS trailed by as many as nine in the first half, but fought back to get within one at 35-34 by halftime. The second half was reversed with the Prairie Stars gaining a double-digit lead twice, including at 62-52 with 6:39 left in the game. UIS did not score though for the final 4:43 of the period, allowing Lewis to come back and tie the game in the final seconds.
 
In the overtime period, an 8-0 run gave UIS a 73-67 lead, and it led by three when Lewis got an offense rebound with 10 seconds left. UIS head coach Matt Brock choose to foul to prevent a three-pointer. Lewis made just one free throw, and Keymonta Johnson grabbed the rebound with two seconds left. After Johnson made one free throw, Trey Marble stole an in-bounds pass, preventing Lewis from attempting a game-tying desperation shot.
 
Lewis had 18 more field-goal attempts in the game, but UIS's defense held the Flyers to just 38 percent shooting from the field, and 35.5 percent shooting from three-point range. The Prairie Stars made 54.7 percent from the field, including 10-of-19 from behind the arc.
 
Johnson had a big game in the victory after recording a double-double of 27 points and 12 rebounds. He was 10-of-16 from the field, and had one assist and two steals. In overtime, Johnson had eight of the team's 13 points, and pulled down three rebounds.
 
Jack Weber finished with 16 points, making eight-of-13 from the field. Chase Robinson had 12 points and dished out a career-high seven assists. Trey Marble was a perfect four-of-four from three-point range, and had 12 points and three steals. Matt Wending hit three three-pointers for his nine points. Will Rucker was the top player off the bench, including having a team-high +7 plus/minus.
 
UIS moves back to .500 for the season at 7-7. The Prairie Stars are in action again next Saturday at Quincy.
