Baseball Comes Up Two Runs Short In Final Game In West Virginia

Box Score The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team ended its week's road trip with a loss to Saginaw Valley State on Sunday in Institute, W. Va. The Prairie Stars fell by a 5-3 margin.
 
UIS fell in an early 5-0 hole in the game. The Prairie Stars bullpen kept the game close, but the offense could not push across the tying run late in the game.
 
Ruben Markham hit a homer for UIS. Zion Pettigrew had two hits and a walk, and Bobby Bernard reached base three times, including a hit and two hit by pitchers. Nick Wisz had a pinch hit double.
 
On the mound, AJ Golembiewski went three innings and allowed just one hit, no walks, and he struck out three. Mason Coon did not allow a hit or walk in two innings, and struck out two.
 
UIS falls to 5-2 on the year, and it finished its West Virginia road trip with a 3-1 mark. The Prairie Stars are scheduled to have their home opener on Friday against Purdue Northwest.
