Women's Golf Finishes Seventh at Saluki Invitational

The University of Illinois Springfield women's golf team played shorthanded at the Saluki Invitational on Sunday and Monday, but still finished in the top half of the team standings. The Prairie Stars came in seventh in the 14-person field at the Hickory Ridge Golf Course in Carbondale, Ill.

UIS played the tournament with just four golfers meaning they were not able to throw out its high score each day. On Sunday, the Prairie Stars shot a 323 and was in fifth place. UIS shot a 338 during its second round, and its finals score of 661 placed it seventh. The Prairie Stars finished ahead of seven teams, including four NCAA Division I programs.

UIS received balance scoring from the its top-three scorers, and all three placed in the top-20 overall. Paula Valdivia shot a team-best 80 on Monday and finished with a score of 159. Maria Espinosa was the team leader after the first round with a 76, and completed the tournament with a 160. Jennifer Queller was one shot behind Espinosa, including shooting a 78 during the first round. Rounding out the tournament was Sasha Glickfield who shot an 181.

The women's golf team will be in action again on April 7-8 at the Triton Invitational in St. Louis, Mo.
